The SOS Youth Programs consist of a suite of materials designed to teach middle and high school students to ACT® (Acknowledge, Care, and Tell) in the face of a mental health emergency. In addition to the high school and middle school SOS Signs of Suicide® programs, the Booster program helps prepare students who are transitioning out of high school. Additionally, in response to the growing problem of self-injury among youth, the Signs of Self-Injury Prevention Program was developed. All youth programs are based on the original SOS Signs of Suicide program for high schools.
The main teaching tools of the youth programs are educational videos accompanied by a discussion guide for use by school staff to facilitate dialogue with students. The SOS Signs of Suicide materials focus on teaching students to recognize the signs of depression and suicidality, while the Signs of Self-Injury materials focus on the problem of purposeful, self-inflicted injury among students. Both programs teach students to respond to someone exhibiting these problems by acknowledging and expressing concern to the person and then telling a responsible adult.
The SOS materials can be used in alternative settings serving youth such as: social clubs, after-school programs, and juvenile justice systems. All schools registering for the program receive access to program training materials and support from our staff. If you need to use a purchase order to complete payment please mail or fax in the registration form rather than register online.
Your SOS order should arrive within 7-10 business days. If you need materials immediately please call: 781-239-0071.
